I believe that being unfit can eventually lead to health problems that can make everything else in your life difficult to enjoy. That is why I consider exercise very important and make it a part of my weekly routine while living and teaching English in Japan. I’ve earlier written about the importance of exercise or me going to a private fitness club [...]

I’m from Canada and although I am living and teaching English in Japan, I find samples and moments of Canadian culture right here in Japan. Some examples are Maple syrup, the book “Ann of Green Gables”, “Canada Dry” ginger ale and music from singer Celine Dion. I think that it’s good that Japanese people are exposed to Canadian [...]

I think it’s very useful for Japanese people to know how to speak some English because they stand the chance of being spoken to by a foreigner in English anytime they go out, right here in Japan. On Friday of this week, on of my students told me that two foreigners, both on foot, had greeted her as she [...]

I love putting smiles on my students’ faces at Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi. Whether it’s because of something I say or something I do, seeing them smile or laugh is great! Why? Because it means they having a good time! It creates a positive environment which is good for both teaching English and learning English. Smith’s School [...]

What does Teaching English in Japan have to do with toothpaste? Not much to many but quite a lot to Smith’s School of English coaches. I enjoy teaching English in Japan and even after so many years here I admit that pretty much anything about Japan still fascinates me. My English school, Smith’s School of [...]

On Sunday, September 14th, 2008 I went grape picking in Okayama Prefecture with my wife, her cousin, her mother and her mother’s friend. We had a great time! Here’s a picture of me picking some grapes.
