Music is magic. We should all sing in our daily lives (I sometimes do, especially with my son). When I teach toddlers, I get a chance to sing and take it with pleasure. They are great audiences and do not judge good or bad.
And music is magic for them. They feel the rhythm with their bodies. They dance to it. They sway to it. They can pick up English pronunciation better. There may be a Mozart effect (perhaps not with MY singing; I also use CD’s for support!!). And they can learn larger segments of English as they are naturally interested in listening to songs.
I sing songs like the Itsy bitsy Spider, the ABC song (of course!), the Brown Bear song, and One Little, Two little, Three Little Fingers song.
If you don’t know many songs, or can’t remember them, then pick up a “Wee Sing and Play” CD (Amazon books), and some Greg and Steve CD’s. There are lots to choose from. Don’t worry about the moms. They just sit and watch. They should sing too, but perhaps they are too shy.
Have fun singing with kids!
