The rainy season has come to an end and it’s gotten quite hot and humid here in Tsukaguchi (塚口), Amagasaki (尼崎市), Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, the location of my English conversation school (英会話スクール), Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi (スミス英会話 塚口校). With temperatures often being over 30 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, you have to be careful out there and stay out of the sun as much as possible. You also need to make sure that you stay hydrated if you do activities outside with all the sweating, like handing out flyers for English conversation (英会話) lessons! (^.^)
When I lived in Canada, we rarely had temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius in summer and high humidity. Temperatures usually were in the high twenties on summer days and it was relatively dry. Here in Japan, it’s hard to imagine living without an air conditioner in summer. It gets up to 35 or 36 degrees Celsius on really hot summer days, and with the high humidity, it feels even hotter. In Canada, my parents’ house didn’t have an air conditioner. Even if it was hot, it was OK in the shade and indoors because it wasn’t so humid. We do get heat waves once in a while though in Canada, but they are rare. Apparently we had one such heat wave this year in July, as you can read about by clicking here. I was surprised to hear about it from my mother on the telephone. It sounded like the weather here! Wow!
The hot and humid weather makes doing flyers more challenging. So what do I do? Well, I hide inside during the really hot times of the day, just commuting between my school and home. Indoors, it’s comfortable with air conditioning. When it’s cooler outside, I try to get out and do some flyers for Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi! Hot weather or not, I’ve got to keep going! I won’t get many students by doing nothing, will I? (^.^) So is it worth the effort? You bet! I’ve got 2 trial lessons scheduled for this week, both from flyers! (^.^)
