“Purikura”

My winter break was quite good. I went on a few day trips, spent three days in Tokyo, but the highlight of it all was a simple dinner with my family.  For those that think Japan is nothing but fish and rice, think again. It is all here, and we chose the “Outback Steak House” for a change. I had a filet mignon, my son Alex had a rack of baby-back ribs that absolutely killed, daughter Rachael had a burger that was so big she couldn’t finish it, and my (wife) had prime rib. Appetizers were a “blooming onion” and popcorn shrimp, complimented with a large glass of Australian ale.  A wonderful dinner…

Then we did something that I had never done or had the desire to do. On my daughter’s request we went to a game center to the “purikura” booth. “Print club” is very popular here with the younger people, basically a big photo booth. You can email the photos and take home “stickers” of the “event.” I was reluctant but it turned out to be a fun experience with the family. Lots of laughs. Sometimes ya just gotta let loose. We did. Happy New Year everyone.

The variety of things to do in Japan is fantastic, living and working here offers one new experience after another. I was pleased to read that you went to an “Outback Steak House” and that you had a large glass of aussie ale – a great choice. If only more Japanese would visit restaurants and spend more money enjoying themselves then just maybe the Japanese economy will not suffer another long period in recession.
