After recently reading a posting about a BBQ event with students by a fellow teacher at Smith’s English school in Kyobashi I realized that I had neglected to write about my own BBQ event!

This event, unbeknownst to most of the students, also happened to fall on my birthday!
Well, if no one was going to throw me a birthday party, I organized and threw my own!
One of the students from Smith’s School of English Kamishinjo chose the spot and she did a great job! I’m only familiar with the area around the local station in Kamishinjo as that is where I spend most of my time while in Kamishinjo.
I pass out flyers there and my school is located within one minute of the station.
The event took place right in the middle of the rainy season but we lucked out that day and had beautiful weather!
I also invited students from Smith’s School of English Horie and between the two schools we had about 20 students come out for the event!
We had a great time cooking up various foods, playing a soccer game between the girls and the boys, and even had a watermelon splitting event!

The students enjoyed meeting other students both from Smith’s School of English Horie and Smith’s School of English Kamishinjo and new friendships were formed!

Everyone was exhausted at the end of the day so we decided to call it a day around 6pm!
Since that day I have had many of the students thank me for organizing the event and asking me to do it again!
They thanked me but little did they know that they had actually helped me to celebrate my birthday in a wonderful way and it was I who should have actually been thanking them…
