Recently the weather has been getting warmer and we all know what to expect in about a month or so when the mercury will be around 30 degrees Celsius every day and the humidity around 100%. http://japanese.about.com/library/weekly/aa081901a.htm
A couple of days ago while riding the subway between my 2 schools I saw this English teacher who didn’t look very comfortable in his black suit and tie.
Of course, because it was around 28 degrees Celsius that day!
I assumed he must work for one of the BIG Eikaiwa schools because those places usually require their teachers to wear suits. Personally I’ve never worked at one myself but there is no way you are going to see me in a suit in the summer in Japan unless I’m attending some very special event!
I guess we teachers here at Smith’s School of English have it pretty good. I just always have taken it for granted that I can work in pretty much anything I feel comfortable in.
In the summer you will always see me in a short-sleeved shirt and once in a while even in shorts. In the winter I’m in jeans and a fleece or sweater.

There is no way I could effectively do my job if I’m uncomfortable, and wearing a suit in Japan in the summer is not comfortable!
