| Since opening the school 7 years ago, I have built it up slowly at a pace I was happy at. Within that time I had the freedom to do what I wanted to do. The days I wanted to be opened and the hours I wanted to teach. Moreover I could change my days and times whenever I wanted, which fits into my life's schedule. Meaning that I could go overseas whenever I wanted to pursue my hobbies all in the knowledge that Smith's will be running the show with well trained part timers leaving me to enjoy my vacation stress free. I have been to Thailand & Bali numerous times also PNG for diving which is one of my passions. Along with traveling from China all the way to Finland on the Trans Siberian. Add to that a few European trips, Sri Lanka, Australia and numerous other Asian countries to boot which would never had been possible if I worked at a regular Eikawai (English School) due to, not being able to take long vacations at one time. With Smith's I can go as long as I wish. There is no other business that would give me the freedom to come and go as I please.
Adding to this I work a lot less hours between 20 to 25 hours a week and still take home 30% more than most paid teachers working for the man in Japan. I could easily raise my salary if I wish. All I need to do is do a little local promotion to advertise my school and new students pour in. If it gets too busy I lay off the brakes a little and go with the flow. I could have a lot more students if I wished, but I like the speed and ease of my lifestyle right now thank you. I have done my fair share of travel and now I have upped the pace again recently and have gone out again over the past months and have done some local promotion once more. Just over the past month I have had 8 new students sign up. So that's 8 times 31,000 yen. This really required little effort. I have no competitors in the area, it is quite easy to get new students when one feels the need. This is the whole reason that I joined Smith's, because I couldn't find anything else like this that could give me the freedom, good money and to be able to set up the school the way I wanted. On an average week, 25 hours taught The school is open 4 and half days a week Tues. 1-10pm Weds. 1-10pm Thurs. 1-10pm Fri 6-9pm Sat 9-6pm. Each day is split by an hour break. Sun & Mon off Note: It is up to the new partners if they wish to open more hours and days. |

More Information: Otsu school was opened Feb. 1999 by Craig Drayton & his wife Sonoe. Otsu is in the South Western part of Lake Biwa in Shiga. It's one the fastest growing areas in Japan due to it's proximity to the lake and the added bonus of its natural beauty. In the past two years, the vicinity has seen a building boom with many new apartment buildings being erected and many more are in the pipe line, thus bringing in many young new families. JR Otsu station has also had a major face lift. Not far from the station are the main Shiga government buildings along with the prefectural town hall. It's a very busy area consisting of many civil servants. The school itself is a 20 minute walk to the lakeside. From Otsu station it's a 10 minute train ride to the ancient and beautiful city of Kyoto and another 25 minutes onto the city of Osaka. A 2 minute ride in the other direction will take you to the nearby city of Zeze, which has a big shopping plaza catering to all one's needs and which also includes a state of the art cinema complex, nearby is a theatre hall. Because of the surrounding beauty, it's a big draw for outdoor fanatics from hiking, swimming, skiing, jet skiing, fishing and so on, all year round. The northern part of the lake boasts some outstanding scenery. Craig Drayton & his wife Sonoe built this Smith's franchise school from scratch. Present student body, are all adult students no kids and an income of around 7,000,000 yen a year. Initial handover and ongoing support will be provided by both Smith's head office and Craig himself. Scheduling, student reservations, administration, sales, media promotion, tax, vacation requests and many other duties are handled by head office, so giving you extra quality time.
